Kidney disease can be included into one of the most dangerous diseases. The disease occurs in five different stages. The first stage of kidney disease is started with kidney damage. The damage is accompanied with glomerular filtration rate or GFR at normal or high level. Generally, there is no symptom to indicate the damaged kidney. The symptoms of the disease are including higher creatinine level in the blood. The level is higher than normal level. You might also notice any blood in the urine. Another symptom is the evidence of kidney damage in MRI, CT scan, or ultrasound.
The second stage of kidney disease is kidney damage accompanied with mild decrease in their glomerular filtration rate (GFR). You might not notice any noticeable symptom to indicate the damaged kidneys. The symptom of the second stage kidney disease is higher level of creatinine or urea in the blood. When you are undergoing MRI or CT scan, your doctor will notice any kidney damage.
The third stage of kidney disease is kidney damage with moderate decrease of glomerular filtration rate or GFR. Since there is decrease in the kidney functioning, there will be waste products buildup in the blood. The condition is known as uremia. There are three symptoms which can be seen in stage 3 kidney disease. These are including fatigue, rieed feeling, anemia, swelling or edema in the lower legs, kidney pain, insomnia, and much more. The patient might urinate more or less. They need to get up at night for urination.
The fourth stage of kidney disease is kidney damage with severe decrease in the glomerular filtration rate or GFR. When patient is in the fourth stage of the disease, they need to undergo dialysis treatment or kidney transplantation. The patient might suffer from complications of chronic kidney disease. These are including hypertension, anemia, bone disease, heart problem, and much more. The symptoms which can be seen in the fourth stage of kidney disease are including fatigue, tired feeling, swelling or edema in the lower leg and with too much fluid, and much more. Some patients are reported to suffer from breathing problem. During this stage, you might notice that urine might be foamy or dark brown. In many worse cases, it contains blood. Most patients are not reported to have kidney pain. However, they suffer from pain the back where the kidneys are present.
The fifth stage of kidney disease is the end stage renal disease (ESRD). In this stage, the sufferer has very low glomerular filtration rate or GFR. The fifth stage is also considered as the advanced stage of kidney disease. The kidney has lost all ability to perform its function effectively. There are some symptoms which can be seen in the last stage. Those are including loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, little or no urine, swelling around the eyes and ankles, increased skin pigmentation, and much more. The kidneys do not have the ability to remove waste products from the body. The toxins will be building up in the blood and causes overall ill feeling. Kidney also fails in performing other functions such as blood pressure regulation, formation of red blood cells, and activation of vitamin D for healthy bones. In many cases, blood pressure or chronic diabetes can lead to kidney failure. Kidney failure can be caused by acute infections, auto-immune disorders, and uncontrolled usage of chemotherapeutic drugs.
